Solution overview
Dragon software delivers accurate speech recognition to convert spoken words to text. It is used by corporate executives, mobile/field workers, professional services personnel, lawyers, students, and retirees to capture text “in the moment” instead of relying on note-taking or transcribing audio files at a later time.
Dragon is AI-powered speech recognition technology enabled by language and acoustic models to recognise the human voice. Modern speech recognition is, at heart, a high-speed statistical modelling exercise where the context of a speakers words in a complete sentence are used to predict the next word in the sentence. For this reason, you will notice Dragon will often listen to an entire sentence before transcribing text to the screen. A good example of this in practice is when homophones like “whether” and “weather” are used. In isolation, Dragon might have trouble knowing which spelling to use – but as part of a complete sentence, Dragon can understand the context and use the correct word. The use by Dragon of Deep Learning technology helps maximize accuracy in instances like this.
Up to 99% accuracy from the start and it will improve by adapting to your voice as you use it.
Dragon v16 is first designed for Windows 11. It includes numerous updates and enhancements surrounding support for Microsoft Office like “Modern Comments” when editing documents, support for commands in Microsoft Teams, accessibility updates, enhanced support of Dragon for common hardware configurations and PowerMic 4 compatibility.

Most versions of Dragon are available in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish and Dutch. Read more.
Yes, the Professional version of the product can transcribe an audio file that contains one speaker.
Dragon Professional will transcribe an audio file that has been created in MP3, WAV, WMA, DS2 or DSS format, by a Dragon voice profile that has already been trained by a user. These products will not transcribe other audio formats, or for users that have not trained an audio profile, nor will it cater for multiple voices. In short, Dragon cannot capture an interview between two or more people and create a transcript of that conversation. It is designed to transcribe a single speakers voice at one time.
So, unfortunately, we don't currently have the technology to transcribe meetings directly.
However, you can record the meeting, and then listen back to this sentence by sentence. Then restate what you have heard into a new document. This enables you to format the resulting document as you re-speak the audio.
Dragon Professional are designed for use on Windows 10 and 11 machines. Dragon Anywhere Mobile is the product designed for mobile environments based on iOS or Android and can be synced for use with Dragon Professional.
No, there is a slight delay so Dragon can hear the entirety of the sentence the user is speaking and adjust accordingly.
Yes, it can.
Dragon is a speaker-dependent solution designed to recognise a single speaker’s voice. Each license of Dragon represents a single user/live speaker. When using Dragon's “Transcribe Recording” feature, an additional recorded voice (separate from the licensed speaker’s voice) can be effectively transcribed, but only in instances where a single speaker is recorded. Transcription of audio files that contain two or more speakers is not supported. Additional licenses are required for additional live speakers.
Implementation
For Professional products, just click on the install link in your order confirmation email following purchase. You will then be guided through the installation process. For Dragon Anywhere Mobile, via subscription through the ecommerce store or via the iOS or Google Play Store.
Dragon Professional licenses are per user, not per machine. A licensed speaker is permitted to create and use multiple voice profiles, and these voice profiles can be activated on two separate machines. A separate license, however, must be purchased for each additional speaker whose voice profile(s) are being used by the software. Read more.
No, Dragon is only available for Windows/PC.
You can purchase and then overload multiple languages on one PC, but the base Dragon must be the same version, so currently all would need to be version 16. You cannot overload v15 with v16. This means if you need French, German and English, you would purchase French and German. English is supplied free with all other versions of the Professional product. You need to create a profile for each language.
Uninstall the software from your current computer whilst connected to the internet and the Nuance activation server will return your licence to you. You are then free to install on another computer.
Sales
That depends on the version you currently have. If you have the previous version of Dragon (v15) then upgrade pricing is available from our e-commerce store for Dragon Professional. Please note that if you have an earlier version of Dragon (ie v14 and below) then you will need to buy a new license at full price.
Dragon Home v15 is a solution not optimised for professional users. Therefore, Nuance did not create Dragon Home v16. Dragon Home will no longer be available for sale in the markets Dragon v16 is being launched. It will, however, continue to be supported in accordance with Nuance “Current + 1 prior” support policy. In addition, as a perpetual license, users may continue to use it throughout the end of support of Windows 10 – currently scheduled for October 2025
In short, no. There is the primary user’s speech profile, and Dragon can transcribe the voice of one other individual. This is most frequently used when transcribing an audio file from another speaker. A separate license must be purchased for each primary speaker whose voice profile(s) are being used by the software.

Dragon will work in virtually any Windows based application where you can position a cursor and type as you would with your keyboard. Some applications however, (like Microsoft Office) offer “full text control” allowing for higher levels of formatting features. Full text control is denoted by a green circle in the Dragon bar.
Yes, but you need to install the Dragon Chrome extension for your Chrome browser to do so. Note that “full text control” and certain commands may not work in all online applications and may necessitate the user of the Dragon dictation box.
Dragon can be used with a wide variety of microphones (including built into a laptop), although we typically recommend a high-quality usb microphone/headset, our Dragon Bluetooth headset, or our PowerMic 4 microphone. Learn more about official Nuance accessories here.
Dragon will recognise most formats of audio. The type of device is not relevant.
Once installation and activation have occurred, desktop-based versions of Dragon do not require an internet connection to function. With volume license editions of the software, connecting to the Nuance Management Center (NMC) is an optional feature that would require a brief connection while logging into Dragon, but the use of NMC is not mandatory. Dragon Anywhere Mobile and Dragon Professional Anywhere on the other hand do require internet connectivity.
No, it requires an active WiFi or mobile connection.
